Operation Warriors Return (OWR) – working to bring together the MoD, Combat Stress, the NHS, the Third Sector and Corporate Support in the provision of an integrated approach to the physical and mental health needs of our veterans within the community as well as those servicemen/women in transition into civilian life.
OWR is an innovative project that provides opportunities for Veterans and servicemen/women in transition (including those simply adjusting to physical disablement or a move back into civilian life), to participate in a variety of projects and programmes at a Cambridgeshire Care Farm that embodies the “whole person approach” to the care of those with mental and physical health needs. In addition to diverse activities such as horticulture, animal husbandry, fitness training, artistic, educational, and social events the facility also offers the opportunity for these individuals to develop new skills alongside other Veterans.
OWR also supports the leading military mental health charity Combat Stress as well as other service groups and has established a friendly and informal ‘drop in/referral centre’ at Woodside where Veterans and their families can meet, create, socialise and have easy access to a range of projects and specialist services and facilities including quiet empathetic space, specific help with their physical fitness needs, rural pursuits and an excellent platform for the treatment, the early detection and the raising of awareness of mental health issues.
Project funded to date by the founders, volunteers, MOD (Veterans Challenge Fund), NHS, European Social Fund, benefactors and corporate partners such as Morgan Sindall plc and their suppliers.
